The Stardust Trail – Part One
The STARDUST TRAIL – Part 1
As the sun was rising this morning, Alyssa, the Elko, Nevada Shelter Manager, gently loaded Stardust, her five tiny babies, and three other adult female collies into the vehicle to begin their journey to California.
Their route would take them on a six-hour drive across the desert to the hand-off point in Amargosa Valley. There, these precious lives would meet Denise, the dedicated transporter for Southland Collie Rescue (SCR), who would continue their journey to their next stop in Phelan, California.
What began in a Nevada town of approximately 21,000 people, in a small city shelter, has become the start of a new life for 28 collies—a life that will now be filled with love, patience, and gentle hands.
Along the way, a special kind of bond formed between the shelter staff and these beautiful dogs. Last night for some, and early this morning for others, there were bittersweet goodbyes… quiet murmurs of “have a wonderful life” and “we’ll really miss you.” Those heartfelt farewells followed Stardust, her five little ones, and the three lucky females as they began their journey toward safety and a brighter future.
All of us at Southland Collie Rescue want to sincerely thank Alyssa and the entire team at the Elko Shelter for their compassion, dedication, and for truly being there for these incredible souls. Their kindness gave these dogs the chance to start again.
Rescue takes a village. With 9 collies coming into our care, the costs for transport, crates, food, bloodwork, spays/neuters, vaccinations, and full veterinary care add up quickly. If you would like to help support Stardust, her babies, and the rest of this beautiful group, please consider making a donation.
Every contribution—no matter the size—helps us continue this journey and give these collies the safe, healthy future they deserve.

Please share their story so more people can follow The Stardust Trail and help these collies along the way.
Stay tuned for Part 2 as their journey continues…
